An open-source communications platform for voice automation needed a clearer developer experience. We reduced onboarding friction, added contextual guidance during setup, and designed a modular system spanning the web portal, dashboard, browser extension, and a drag-and-drop call-flow builder.

Designing for open-source scale — and real-time voice.
Jambonz is an open-source CPaaS (Communications Platform as a Service) that powers modern telephony experiences for enterprise teams, developers, and global carriers. We worked with the founding team to elevate the product’s UX, clarify its onboarding flows, and help define its visual identity across web, app, and extension environments.
The Brief
Jambonz already had the engine — it needed a clearer interface and product experience that matched its technical depth. We were brought in to streamline its developer-facing setup and make voice automation feel less intimidating for first-time users and smaller teams.

Our work started by clarifying core user goals: launching voice applications faster, reducing friction, and confidently navigating open-source complexity. From day one, we focused on pragmatic UX — clean flows, minimal distractions, and thoughtful defaults.
We created a modular visual language that works across developer portals, dashboards, and onboarding experiences — anchored by clarity and speed.
Onboarding
Jambonz is powerful — but it doesn’t need to feel heavy. We broke onboarding into a focused, friendly flow that helps users connect their SIP trunk, validate credentials, and place their first call in minutes.
We also introduced contextual guidance at key setup moments, helping reduce support load while empowering users to self-serve.
Extension
The Jambonz browser extension gives developers a lightweight way to place, test, and debug calls without ever leaving the browser. We helped design a clear, distraction-free interface with just the essentials — bringing real-time calling into a fast, fluid environment.
Call Flows
We collaborated closely with the Jambonz team on the Call Flows builder — a drag-and-drop visual editor for voice automation.
Our design system focused on interaction clarity: clean node relationships, quick access to settings, and an interface that scales with complexity. The result is a tool that gives developers flexibility and confidence when building sophisticated voice apps — without getting lost in the weeds.
